Özet
The aim of this study was to reveal the competencies of in-service science and primary school teachers who were working in various parts of the country to integrate 21st century skills into science lessons. The science and primary school teachers’ competencies in applying 21st century teacher skills have been examined in order to see if teachers’ skills are important part of their teaching and there is a relationship between teachers’ skills and their science lessons, and whether the 21st century teacher skills change in terms of branch, gender, years of service, and the institution type. In this study, the comparative and descriptive survey model approach was used. The study group of the research consists of 1241 in-service science and primary school teachers working in public and private schools. Research data was collected with the personal questionnaire “Demographic Information Form” and the research instrument “21st Century Teacher Skills Use Scale”. The data were analyzed using appropriate descriptive and parametric statistical methods. As a result of the study, the in-service science and primary school teachers’ uses of skills were examined and the differences were determined in terms of variables such as gender, branch, institution type, and years of professional service. It was also determined that both in-service science and primary school teachers had high levels of 21st century teacher skills use. The research findings are intended to aid efforts to increase the qualifications of in-service science and primary school teacher education in our county, as well as to contribute efforts to improve and to achieve the main objectives of the science curriculum. Furthermore, it has been noted that there is not enough research has been conducted in our country on the competencies of in-service science and primary school teachers uses and integration of the 21st century skills into their lessons. This thesis research is expected to contribute to the literature in this respect.
