Communication is an indispensable and important tool in all areas of human life. In times of rapid development and change in technology, communication and its content has changed dramatically in parallel with technological developments. Recent studies state that communication consists of percent verbal, 33 percent paraverbal and 55 percent nonverbal elements. The aim of this study is to examine the extent to which these are reflected in the textbooks planned for foreign language teaching. The present work is based on two research methods and has two objectives. The quantitative research method consists of a questionnaire with demographic information about teachers working at Ankara Goethe Institute and a five-level Likert-scale questionnaire. The survey measures the importance, function and frequency of use of videos in German foreign language (DaF) classes. In addition to this, non-verbal elements of communication in video clips and their functions for teachers are questioned. The second research method involves analyzing and evaluating non-linguistic elements of 24 video clips in the DaF textbook according to Constanze Kaiser. The table developed for each video clip contains the name of the clip, the purpose of the chapter, the content of the clip and the channels of non-verbal communication. Both in the survey study as well as in the analysis and evaluation of the video clips in the DaF textbook "Menschen A1" it became clear that the function and importance of videos generally did not find their place comprehensively. The results of the two studies will contribute to the creation of authentic videos in the books prepared for the DaF course.
