Özet
This study aims to examine the effects of Design Thinking Approach activities on students' creative thinking skills and academic achievement in the seventh grade of middle school science course. This study was conducted with an explanatory sequential design from mixed research methods. Data were collected with individual creativity scale and academic achievement test, which are quantitative data collection tools, and semi-structured interview form, student diaries and design notebooks, which are qualitative data collection tools. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of the collected quantitative data, and descriptive and content analysis were used in the analysis of the qualitative data. As a result of this study; it was determined that both creative thinking and academic achievement improved significantly in favor of the experimental group to which the design-focused thinking approach was applied. In addition, it was determined that the students' views on the design-focused thinking approach process positively affected their creative thinking skills and academic achievement, and supported the quantitative findings. It is recommended that researchers in this field conduct studies to reveal the relationships between the design thinking approach and different variables. It is also recommended that science teachers include the design thinking approach in their course processes.
