Okul Öncesi Dönemdeki Çocukların Toplumsal Cinsiyet Algılarının İncelenmesi
Abstract
Defined as the duties, responsibilities, and behaviors a society expects the women and men to display, gender has always been a topic of controversy. Yet, children s opinions concerning gender has not been examined that much. Gender is known to surface and become visible during the early periods of life. Studying the matter of gender during preschool years is of special significance because it is the most suitable time to furnish individuals with values, attitudes, and behaviors that serve as the principles of life. Examining how children perceive gender and formulating educational policies based on these studies are considered to be vital in a world where women are increasingly vandalized, girls face more negative discrimination than boys, popular culture shapes children s lifestyles and preferences, and mainstream media, printed or visual, reproduce gender roles and present it to children, and where traditional gender roles are reinforced and supported through children s literature.
