The main aim of our study is to investigate and analyse the concepts of cliché and stereotype in French language teaching. We began by examining the relationship between language and culture, and then analysed the foundations and types of stereotypes and clichés. We carried out an in-depth analysis of the teaching material, consisting of five textbooks at levels A1 to A2 and videos at levels B1 to B2 from TV5MONDE. Our aim was to determine the variations in frequency and type of use, to understand how these elements are employed in the different teaching materials and to see how their use varies according to the level of teaching and the age of the learners. In our study, we have highlighted the positive and negative effects of the use of clichés and stereotypes in teaching materials on learners in French as a foreign language (FLE) teaching.
