The use of the history of mathematics in mathematics education has been one of the most
important topics in recent years. In our country and many others, information about the
history of mathematics is found in the content of textbooks. The aim of this study is to
examine to what extent and how the history of mathematics is used within the content of
mathematics textbooks which that had been used by The Ministry of National Education in
2019-2020 academic yearyear. Therefore, in the study, which preparation principles and
distribution methods have been used wereare mentioned. Then, sixteen secondary school
mathematics textbooks recommended by the Ministry of National Education for the relevant
academic year were examined by using the document analysis method, one of the
qualitative research approaches, as a research method. Moreover, how textbooks are
determined and which distribution methods are used in some European countries has been
examined. Ulteriorly, by using document analysis method which is one of the qualitative
research approaches, sixteen secondary education mathematics textbooks which had been
suggested by The Ministry of National Education for the mentioned academic year have
been analyzed. The informations about mathematics history information in the textbooks
havewas been examined through the determined questions and the quantitative datas
within the scope of the within the results have been presented with by graphics and tables.
It is thought that the findings obtained in the research will contribute to the preparation and
development of secondary school mathematics textbooks.
