Since the end of the 1980s, intercultural learning has become one of the main objectives of foreign language teaching. Thus, intercultural learning contents and activities have been included in the concepts of foreign language textbooks and have become an indispensable element of foreign language teaching. Global, regional and regionalised textbooks are used in German language teaching. While global textbooks are often used at public schools, regional textbooks are used at state schools in Turkey. For the implementation of intercultural learning in the German language lesson, it is also important that teachers, as mediators of the foreign culture, are aware of the respective intercultural differences and their effects and are interculturally competent in this sense. In this study, an answer is sought to the question of whether the regional German language textbooks used in foreign language teaching at state grammar schools in Turkey are suitable for intercultural learning. Furthermore, the study also deals with the intercultural sensitivity of German language teachers. In this context, the regional textbooks "Mein Schlüssel zu Deutsch" and "Deutsch Macht Spaß" are analysed according to Renges’ catalogue of criteria for intercultural learning. The intercultural sensitivity of German language teachers at public secondary schools was examined using the intercultural sensitivity questionnaire developed by Chen and Starosta.
