Abstract
The aim of this study is determine the predictive power communication skills on phubbing and also examine to whether correlate between phubbing and communication skills. And in this study examine to whether the level of phubbing differ based on selected variables. This study was designed with correlational and descriptive model based on the quantitative method. The study group composed of 495 university students (58.6% female and 41.4% male) aged between 18-30. Personal Information Form, The Generic Scale of Phubbing and The Communication Skills Scale were used as data collection tools. SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0 softwares were used for data analysis. Pearson was used examine to whether correlate between phubbing and communication skills. Structural equation modeling and path analysis were used examine to whether communication skills predict phubbing. Independent samples t test and Univariate ANOVA were used to determine whether phubbing differ based on selected variables. As a result, it was found that significant negative low correlation between phubbing and communication skills. And also communication skills were predicting phubbing. And phubbing didn’t differ gender, number of friends, contact time with firends a week, but it differs reading habits a week and leisure time activity. According to Tukey test results who read more than one book a week phubbing level was lower than who read less than one book a week and who play video games phubbing level was higher than who do sports and read book. Findings are discussed in light of the literature.
