Abstract

The aim of this study is twofold. The first aim is adapting the Relational Ethics Scale into Azerbaijani language and culture, and conducting its validity and reliability study. The second aim is performing a cross-cultural study for Azerbaijani and Turkish cultures within the Relational Ethics Scale's scope. Regarding the first aim, initial translation, a pilot study, and adjustments, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed using data from 330 Azerbaijani individuals aged 18-35 to evaluate construct validity. Regarding the second aim, measurement invariance analysis was applied after collecting data from 330 Azerbaijani and 327 Turkish participants to determine if the Relational Ethics Scale's Azerbaijani and Turkish forms measure the same construct. As data collection tools, a Personal Information Form the Relational Ethics Scale, and the Young Schema Questionnaire's Entitlement subscale for criterion validity were administered. In the final stage, Measurement Invariance analysis was applied for cross-cultural study. As a result, the Relational Ethics Scale demonstrated a four-dimensional factor structure similar to its original Turkish form, possessing sufficient validity and reliability coefficients to measure romantic relationships' ethical dimensions within the Azerbaijani context. Criterion validity analysis revealed significant relationships between the Relational Ethics Scale's Entitlement dimensions and the Entitlement Schema. Through cross-cultural analyses, configural and metric measurement invariance models were achieved, whereas scalar and strict models could not be achieved. Achieving configural and metric invariance models concluded these forms measure the same construct across both cultures.
