Ayşe ÖCAL
ABSTRACT With the developments in science and technology the areas in which the “Fuzzy Logic Approach” has been used have expanded. The concept of fuzzy set was first defined by Zadeh in 1965.The “Fuzzy Logic Approach”, which has been used in various fields and has produced effective results, has also been applied in the field of education similarly. The purpose of this study, to investigate the use of “Fuzzy Logic Approach” in the evaluation process of performance, to evaluate teachers that took the Teaching Practice Course at the Department of Maths for Secondary Education by fuzzy logic, to compare these results obtained with results obtained by conventional method and to present positive and negative sides of these methods in terms of evaluation. In this study, the prospective teachers that took the Teaching Practice Course at the Department of Maths for Secondary Education, at Hacettepe University, in the Spring Term 2013-2014 academic year participated in the study. Their performance was evaluated first classic approach and then using the “Fuzzy Logic Approach”, considering the criteria in the teaching practice assessment form and the results have compared. Result data were tested by Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test in SPSS. On balance, performance scores obtained by “Fuzzy Logic” were higher than those obtained by conventional method and there was a significant difference between scores
