This purpose of this study was to analyze pre-service English teachers’ opinions about multicultural education, to determine perceptions of multicultural efficacy and experiences related to multicultural education. For that purpose, employing phenomenological research design, the study conducted with totally 30 pre-service teachers who were senior students at three state universities in the years between 2017-2018 spring term in Ankara. The participants of the study, English teacher candidates, were selected through criterion sampling strategy. The qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews and then, analyzed by making use of content analysis. The findings indicated that English teacher candidates had awareness regarding multicultural education, they believed in the necessity of multicultural education in learning-teaching process. Further, English teacher candidates stated that teachers required to have specific professional and personal characteristics. However, it was found that they did not feel sufficient about reflecting multicultural education in the process of learning and teaching. In the light of findings, it was concluded that the knowledge and skills acquired by the senior English language teacher candidates, participating in the study, about multicultural education in pre-service education processes were not sufficient. It is expected that the in-depth and comprehensive results of this study emerged from the English language teacher candidates’ perceptions on multicultural education, might contribute to the studies on multicultural education in teacher training programs in Turkey.
