An Investigation of The Relationship Among Students' Understandings pf Heat, Temperature And Internal Energy Concepts, Learning Orientations And Some Affectıve Characteristics
Özet
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among students' understandings of heat, temperature and internal energy, learning orientations and some affective characteristics related to physics. In this context; initially, students' understandings and misconceptions about heat, temperature and internal energy concepts were determined. Then, students' learning orientations and affective characteristics related to physics were also determined. After that, the relationships among these variables and students' understandings of heat, temperature and intenal energy were investigated.
462 students who were 11th grade in Ankara, were participated in this study. "Heat, Temperature and Internal Energy Concept Test" A Form and "Heat, Temperature and Internal Energy Concept Test" B Form which were developed by the researcher were used to determine students' understandings and misconceptions about heat, temperature and internal energy. "Learning Orientations Questionnaire" and "Affective Characteristics Questionnaire" were administered to students to determine their learning orientations and affective characteristics.
The results of this study revealed that students' understandings about heat, temperature and internal energy were very low and they had difficulties in distinguishing the concepts of “heat and temperature” and the concepts of “heat and internal energy”. It was determined that students think "temperature and/or heat of an object depends on its size and/or on the material made of." In addition, positive and significant linear correlations were found among students' understandings of heat, temperature and internal energy, meaningful learning orientation and some affective characteristics related to physics.
