Özet
In the art study report titled “Portrait applications in translucent ceramic bodies”, research
has been conducted on the effects and process of portraits in ceramic works in the context of
art. The historical roots of the concept of portraiture were taken as the basis for this research.
Throughout the history of art, people have given importance to portraits and portraits have
gone through different processes with their own changes in each period until today.
Naturally, the fact that ceramic materials also reflect the oldest processes to us shows us the
importance of the relationship between ceramics and portraits. In the first section of this
study, the relationship between the concepts of “light” and “ceramic” is discussed. In order
to better understand this relationship, the relationship between “light” and “work of art” in
different cultures throughout human history was examined. At this point, the formation
process and structure of translucent ceramics in the historical process were mentioned.
Additionally, it is explored that the artistic process through the lens of light play on ceramic
surfaces and the effects of the semi-transparent glassy appearance resulting from the
material's chemistry. In this section, mostly the artists who stand out with their light and
ceramic works in the world and in our country are mentioned. In the second section, the
process of portraiture and its relationship with ceramic bodies are revealed with the studies
carried out on contemporary art. In this section, examples of portrait works in recent ceramic
works in our country are given. In the third section, the relationships of translucent ceramics
with the connections of my own works are tried to be explained in a multidimensional way.
An examination of the forms of expression, the effects of expressions, the effect on portraits
and the current artistic interpretation of the effect of light are conveyed
