The third chapter of Siraceddin es-Sekkâkî's Arabic work Miftâh al-‘Ulûm, which deals with the sciences of meaning and expression, formed the basis for many works to be written later. The work called Talkhis al-Miftâh written by Hatîb el-Kazvînî has been the most remarkable of them. One of the 20th century scholars of the Ottoman period, Mostafa Bahcat b. Mohamed Sâlim and his work named Bahcat al-Arîb is one of Talkhis’s commentaries written in Ottoman Turkish. The only manuscript copy of the work is registered at the National Library Yz A 4449. In the work, it has been tried to shed light on the rhetoric studies of the period.
In the introduction part of the thesis, information about the rhetoric works in Arabic literature in the historical process and the main rhetoric scholars and their works are given.
In the first part of the thesis, detailed information is given about the lives, literary personalities and works of es-Sekkâkî, the author of Miftâh al-'Ulûm, and el-Kazvînî, the author of Talkhis al-Miftâh. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the examination of Arabic and Turkish studies on Talkhis al-Miftâh.
In the third chapter, the author of the manuscript Mostafa Bahcat and his works were examined also the technical and orthographic features of the manuscript, its content, and the commentary method followed by the poet are given.
In the fourth part of the thesis, the translated text is given. The names of the people and works mentioned in the text are given alphabetically at the end of this part too. So this thesis presents a new Turkish commentary of Talkhis al-Miftâh.
