Tip 2 Diyabetik Bireylerde Diyet Magnezyum Alımı ve Serum Magnezyum Düzeyi ile Metabolik Kontrol Parametreleri Arasındaki İlişkinin Araştırılması
Özet
To optimize the metabolic control is focus in order to manage and prevent the chronic complications of Type 2 DM. Magnesium is responsible for glucose metabolism as a consequence the mineral is potential preventive and therapeutic agent of type 2 DM. This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between dietary magnesium intake, serum magnesium level and metabolic control parametres among 119 type 2 diabetic individuals (aged between 25-65 years, 93 female, 26 male) who applied to Erciyes University Endocrinology Department.Physical examination of patients and assesment of chronic complications was conducted. The sample was seperated into two groups (group 1: no diabetic complication, group 2: at least one chronic complication). All subjects underwent anthropometrical, biochemical and nutritional assesment. Serum magnesium level were lower in group 2 than group 1 (respectively; 0.82±0.09, 0.85±0.13mmol/dl; p>0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between serum magnesium level and dietary magnesium intake (r=0.357, p=0.000) whereas a significant negative correlation between serum magnesium level and postprandial glucose level and HbA1c (respectively; p<0.05, p<0.001).There was no correlation between serum magnesium level and lipid profile (p>0.05), a significant negative correlation was found between serum magnesium level and blood pressure (p<0.05). Also there was a significant negative correlation was found between serum magnesium level and body fat mass and body fat percentage (p<0.05). Dietary magnesium intake was not significantly associated with metabolic parameters and anthropometric measurements. The results suggest that serum magnesium is associated with metabolic control of type 2 DM. Hypomagnesemia was observed in individuals with poor metabolic control; has been associated with the chronic complications of diabetes. Future comprehensive studies should determine the relationship between serum magnesium and dietary magnesium.
