Image, is the state of something that is situated in the mind to gain visibility in the
outside world. This means the medium of the object in the mind changes and we
encounter it as an image. Through this, what is invisible is aligned with what is visible.
The image that is associated with the visible starts to be in contact with the world of the
other via gaze. This is how the relationship that we, who are situated as the other, starts
with the image. Therefore, image sends messages regarding its existence to the other
and speaks through gaze. This is because while gaze clears the way for its existence, it
also feeds off the path it opens. Well, what kind of messages do the gazes of the image
send us? Gaze is a projector that reflects the wall of the mind to the outside world and
what is on the mind’s wall to the other. When approached in this aspect, the gaze of
images always hosts possible messages. Filling these messages with possible gaps in
meaning is a situation related to our approach. Therefore, the gaze of each image is
wrapped up in different layers of meaning in different bodies and communicates with
us. Then there is not just one communication channel. There are windows of
communication that open as the gaze of images are looked upon. In this sense, the
approach in this thesis “The Gaze of the Image” is just one of these windows of
communication that is opened.
