Yaşantı Odaklı Döngüsel Öğretim Programının Tasarlanması Denenmesi Değerlendirilmesi: Mesleki Yabancı Dil Örneği
Özet
In the research, Experience-Based Cyclical Curriculum, which is based on Dewey's views of experience and focuses on learners’ experiences, was designed, implemented and evaluated. The design-based research applied in the study consists of "exploration", "design", "implementation" and "evaluation" stages. The research was conducted with the fourth-grade students taking the Vocational English II course in Tourism Management and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts departments of a state university’s Tourism Faculty. The Quantitative data collected via the Vocational Foreign Language Skills Assessment Test were analysed via single-factor analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) while the qualitative data collected through semi-structured interview forms and a reflection paper were analysed via Strauss and Corbin's coding technique. In the first sub-problem of the research, experts responded positively to the fact that learners’ interests and needs were prioritized, and their individual and professional experiences were at the centre of the design, and reflection was specified as the evaluation type in the curriculum design. The findings regarding the second sub-problem indicate the curriculum design positively affected the learners' vocational foreign language performances. The findings of the third sub-problem suggest the effect of the curriculum design on learners' vocational foreign language learning experiences resulted in five selective codes: "frame of objectives", "pattern of experiences (objective conditions)", "pattern of experiences (internal conditions)", "reflection" and "reflections of distance education". The findings concerning sub-problem four showed design positively affected lecturers’ "reflective teaching skills" and "professional self-efficacy perceptions". Within the scope of the fifth sub-problem, the views of learners and lecturers resulted in three selective codes: “design’s strengths”, “aspects needing improving concerning the design” and “learning environment”.
