Abstract
In this study, the Golden Section is investigated in Béla Bartók s five movements displaying the sonata-allegro form.In the Introduction, the Golden Section is defined and its use in various art forms is exemplified. Following examples found in painting, sculpture, architecture, literature and finally music, discussion about the invention of Golden Section in Bartók music, and the process afterwards, takes place.Method, including information about the universe and sample of this study, contains discussion on the steps to be used in analyses.Findings include formal structure analyses and Golden Section calculations regarding both the whole movement and the formal elements of five movements selected from four different works. In the Discussion part, by combining the data obtained, the composer s approach is considered via the examples displaying a formal structure based on mathematics.
