Ana Baba ve Eğitimcilerin Okul Öncesi Çocukların Televizyon Kullanımına İlişkin Görüşlerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to reveal “what is” and “what should be” on the basis of parent’s and professional’s views on television use of preschool children in terms of type of television program that the children watch, the time they watch television, television program’s effects evaluation within the scope of media literacy. The research is conducted using qualitative research methods. The participants of the study were determined using two sampling methods. “Convenience sampling” was used to determine teachers and parents, “criterion sampling” and “convenience sampling” was used together to determine experts. In this regard, four preschool teachers, seven academicians/experts and 29 parents from a private school; two preschool teachers and 15 parents from a public school willingly participated in the study. The data collection instruments were semi-structured interview form, questionnaire composing of open-close ended questions and document analysis form. Descriptive and content qualitative analysis were used to analyze the data. Findings and results of the study indicate that what the parent’s and preschool teachers do is not enough in terms of type of television program that the children watch, the time they watch television, television program’s effects evaluation within the scope of media literacy. What should be is found out in terms of the same aspects on the basis of the participants’ views.
