Abstract
The aim of this study is to make an eclectic evaluation of the primary second grade English curriculum starting 2013-2014 academic year. Partially mixed sequential equal status design of mixed method research was used. Listening and speaking tests, Primary EFL Affective Objectives Scale, a teacher observation form, a teacher interview form and a curriculum evalution form were used as data collection tools. The study group was identified through maximum variation sampling in Antalya, Alanya province. The primary schools were determined as high, medium and low levels based on their success in TEOG exam. One school from each group was selected for this study. Findings of the listening test revealed that the level of reaching objectives increased according to the success level of schools. However, findings of speaking test showed that the level of reaching objectives was low in three levels of schools. Primary EFL Affective Objectives Scale scores showed that affective characteristics of students in low level group changed negatively at the end of the year; while in medium and high groups there was not a significant difference in students’ affective characteristics. Findings of observations revealed that behaviours of teachers showed both similarities and differences in three groups. In the interviews teachers indicated some deficiencies related to the curriculum and they had some difficulty in implementation process. Besides, they indicated the curriculum was suitable for the level of students. It was also concluded that the draft curriculum should be revised in some respects based on the principles of curriculum development.
