28 Şubat Sürecinde Sivil Toplum Kuruluşları: TOBB ve TÜSİAD Örneği
Abstract
The aim of this study to examine how those organizations representing the capital,
Turkey Chambers and Stock Exchanges Union (TOBB) and the Turkish Industrialists'
and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) behave during the February 28 process. In
order to do this, it was tried to establish a theoretical ground that could explain the
behaviors of these organizations by discussing some concepts related to the concept of
civil society. In addition, the actions of the businessmen organizations before February
28 were evaluated and it was tried to show how civilized these organizations are and
how they relate to the state before the February 28 process.
At the end of the study, it is tried to indicate although TOBB and TUSIAD especially
begining the first half of the 90s had been involved in activities that could be regarded
as civilians or they tried to seem at least, they continued to have a close relationship
with the state on 28 February process in accordence with their general trends and they
served as the cultural footstep of hegemony, not to a civilian environment in which
different voices can be said.
