The aim of this research is to evaluate the relationship between attachment styles and
social phobia levels of children who has married or divorced parents and children who are
in a sensitive adolescence period in the transition from childhood to adulthood
Quantitative method was used in the research. The research sample consists of volunteer
students aged between 11 and 14 who are studying in secondary schools attached to the
Ministry of National Education in the provinces of Ankara during the 2016-2017 Spring
and 2017-2018 Fall semesters. For the sample of the research to represent the universe
from a social and economic point of view, the targeted secondary schools and students in
the provinces of Ankara, district of Çankaya and Etimesgut were selected by simple
random sampling method.
To reveal the sociodemographic characteristics of adolescents, their attachment styles and
their social phobic levels, a survey from which has 3 parts that are "Personal Information
Form", “Relationship Scales Questionnaire- Adoleccent; RSQ-A” and “Social Phobia
Scale for Children and Adolescent (ÇESFÖ)” in total is used.
It has been reached 230 adolescents and the datas that were collected from the participants
were analyzed by a computer program called SPSS Statistics 25 (Statistical Package for the
Social Sciences) and for these numerical varieties descriptive statistics, for these
categorical varieties frequency distribution are given in the analyzes within the scope of
the research. To identify whether there is significant distinction and relation among the
variables or not, t and ANOVA tests were used. It has been located that the datas were not
distrubuted normally and for this reason, the datas were analyzed with non parametric
tests. The datas were analyzed with Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H Tests. The
relationship between social phobic levels and attachment styles of adolescents was
examined by Spearman's Rho analysis.

The rates of boy and girl adolescents who has participated to the research are close; mostly
at the age of 10-12 and whose parents are alive. The rates of boy and girl adolescents who
have divorced parents are equal. Most of the adolescents were found to live with their
mothers. None of adolescent have been separated from their sibling.
The results of the research show that the majority of adolescents have a secure attachment
style. There is no meaningful difference between the attachment styles and gender, age,
married or divorced parents of the adolescents. It was concluded that there is a meaningful
difference between parental education levels and attachment styles of adolescents.And
there is a meaningful difference between adolescents with divorced parents; on school
achievement, parental education levels, family income status assessments, who they live
with and their attachment styles.
Findings from the study show that there is no meaningful relationship between social
phobia levels and gender, parents divorce status of adolescents. It has been determined that
there is a meaningful relationship between the age, class levels, school achievement,
parental education status, family income status and social phobia levels of the adolescents.
When the information of the adolescents who has married or divorced parents were
separately analyzed, it has been spotted that there is a meaningful relationship among age,
class, where they live, school achievement and parental education levels.
At the end, the research findings show that attachment styles with all subscales (secure,
fearful, preoccupied, dismissive) and social phobia levels of adolescents have a meaningful
relationship. A significant relationship has been spotted between the attachment styles with
sub-dimensions of adolescents who have married parents and their social phobia levels.
It has been specified that there is a meaningful relationship between the secure attachment
style of adolescents who have divorced parents and social phobia levels. It has been
concluded that the fearful attachment style and the dismissive attachment style have
statistical meaning.
