ABSTRACT
Karcı, Arzu. Adaptation of Turkish Tile Motifs to Contemporary Painting, Master’s Art Report, Ankara, 2018
The aim of this work is to research the possibilities of the use of local and cultural elements in forming a contemporary Turkish painting language having distinctive qualities in the international art stage at the present time, in which cultural imperialism is experienced along with globalization, and thus the possibilities of the adaptation of one of the most valuable cultural treasures of our culture, Turkish tile patterns, to modern painting.
Accordingly, in the first chapter the relationship between globalization and cultural imperialism and the effects of cultural imperialism in the field of art will be examined. From this point of view, in the second chapter the works of Turkish artists from the pre-Republican period to the present time in forming a contemporary Turkish painting language as a stance against cultural imperialism, which causes standardization in art just like it does in other subjects, will be presented through examples of their artworks.
In the third chapter, information about one of our cultural treasures, Turkish tile art will be provided and the development and history of Turkish tile art from the Anatolian Seljuks to the present time will be conveyed by supporting them with examples.
