Ebeveynlerin Duygu Sosyalleştirme Stratejileri İle Çocukların Sosyal Yetkinlik Düzeyleri Arasındaki İlişki

The aim of this research is to explain the relationship between parental emotional
socialization strategies and social competence level of children. Convenient
sampling method is used to select 364 children who are 36-72 months old,
attending private and public preschools and preschools of primary and secondary
schools in Çankaya, Etimesgut, Keçiören, Kazan and Çamlıdere districts of
Ankara as the sample of the study. In the study, correlational model which is one
of the methods of quantitative research is used. Personal Information Form,
Responses to Children’s Emotions (RCE) Questionnaire and Social Competence
and Behavior Evaluation-30 (SYDD-30) Scale are used as data collection tools.
The data was analyzed through Pearson’s correlation coefficient, t test and oneway
anova. As a result of the study, reward and neglect subscales of mothers’
emotion socialization strategies and children’s social competence were found to
be significantly related. On the other hand, no relationship found between fathers’
emotion socialization strategies and children’s social competence. In addition,
findings indicate that the subscales of mothers’ and fathers’ emotion socialization
strategies differ in accordance with parent’s gender, age, education level,
occupation, number of children and child’s gender. It is also found that children’s
social competence levels differ significantly according to parent’s education level.
