Yoksulluk ve Duygusal-Davranışsal Sorunlar Arasındaki İlişki: Öz-yeterliğin ve Ebeveyn İzleminin Aracı Rolü
Özet
In this study, the mediating roles of self-efficacy and parental monitoring in the relationship between child poverty and emotional-behavioral problems were examined. The study group consisted of 368 students who were selected through purposive sampling and who were studying in public secondary schools in the Southeastern Anatolian Region, which was one of the socioeconomically disadvantaged regions according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) in the first semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. Personal Information Form, Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire, Self-Efficacy Scale for Children, and Parental Monitoring Scale were given to students, while Poverty Perception Scale was given to parents. The parametric and nonparametric test methods were used for data analysis; the parallel mediation model was tested with the Sobel method. According to the findings of this study, it was determined that the levels of child poverty, emotional-behavioral problems, self-efficacy, and parental monitoring did not differ in terms of gender. On the other hand, significant differences were found in these variables regarding academic achievement level, number of siblings, parental employment status, parental literacy status, and father’s being alive. As a result of mediation analysis, it was determined that self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between child poverty and emotional-behavioral problems, while parental monitoring partially mediated the relationship between child poverty and behavioral problems. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature, and recommendations were made for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.
