Abstract

İZNİK CULTURE TILE TRADITION AND CURRENT APPLICATIONS Supervisor: Doç. Hüseyin ÖZÇELİK Author: Fatma PALTA ABSTRACT In this study, it is aimed to find its place in individual applications with today's understanding by following the traces of many works left as a legacy in the ceramic and tile tradition of Iznik, which has a rich cultural history. In the first part, the historical and cultural structure of Iznik was examined in the context of archaeological traces. In the second part, Iznik tile is discussed with its technical, design, production and application areas, and its historical and current position is defined. In the third chapter, the masters of Iznik and their works were examined with their historical process, and examples of today's artists who took the Iznik tile tradition as their subject were given. In the fourth chapter, the traces of the tradition were tried to be interpreted with personal practices. This study, which is based on this tradition, which is extremely rich with its history, artifacts and cultural layers, is important in terms of deriving original interpretations from the examined topics, presenting them for rereading with personal interpretations, presenting the potential of Iznik culture for re-reading, defining the potential of Iznik culture and showing its rich culture.
