The first case included in the study is a vocational high school which is not defined as a project school, and the second case is an Anatolian High School which is defined as a project school. Each case is divided into subunits in itself as student, teacher-manager. Purposive sampling method was used to determine the participants. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 18 students, 12 teachers, and four school managers. The supporting power of labelling and social identity theories have been utilized in the development, design, analysis, and interpretation of the research questions. In analyzing the data, each case was primarily analyzed in itself, and then cross-case analyses and comparisons between cases were made. The results of the study revealed that the phenomenon of labelling was widespread among students, teachers, and managers in the school environment. In addition to this, the characteristics of the labels generated in the school environment, the reasons for the labels, and the effects of the labels on school life showed inter-cases differences. It was shown that labels created about school types for students, teachers, and managers might become value-laden terms. In addition, the research revealed that the labels used for the students had an impact on the activation of the self-fulfilling prophecy. Consequently, since the labelling phenomenon has significant reflections on the school community, it is recommended that future studies expand the sample and investigate the labelling phenomenon in depth in different cases.
