Abstract
Monowire block cutting machines can be used for natural stone block squaring operations and slab cutting operations from natural stone blocks. The plants where the cutting operations are performed demand high product quality with minimum operational costs. The thesis study had two main objectives. Initial aim was to develop a monowire cutting machine that was fully-automated with a computer controlled system. Secondly, investigating the influences of operating parameters such as wire rotation speed (peripheral speed) and wire downward movement speed (cutting speed) on performance parameters (specific energy, unit wear), vibrations occurred and forces exerted on wire were aimed. The obtained results were then used to develop cuttability charts for each natural stone and each natural stone type based on unit wear and unit energy and also perform cutting optimization.
