The aim of the research is to propose a model for performance improvement that can be applied in schools within the framework of the principles presented by the Theory of Constraints in order to increase the quality of education and performance in educational institutions and to ensure continuous development. Because schools are the basic structures of the education system and it can be said that the improvement in schools brings improvement in the whole system. The research was carried out with the qualitative analysis method and 30 school administrators working in Bayraklı district of İzmir province. Within the framework of the main purpose of the research, first of all, legal texts and current practices related to all dimensions of the education system were analyzed, all the features that affect the performance of an institution were determined, and a model proposal was created for performance improvement that can be applied in schools within the framework of the Theory of Constraints. Then, the opinions of school administrators on the applicability of this management model in schools were investigated. In line with the opinions, the structures that should be included in an ideal school management model for improving performance in schools were determined. At the last stage, an alternative school management model proposal was developed by combining all the findings obtained. At the last stage, the findings were discussed in the light of the literature and turned into appropriate recommendations. The results of the study are expected to be a reference for MEB to develop practices to improve performance in schools. The proposed model is valuable in that it can be applied to the national education system in the macro dimension and to the schools, which are the subsystems of this system, in the micro dimension.
