Özet
The aim of this study is to compare and examine the idiom and proverb perceptions of
primary school fourth grade students with and without gifted-talented diagnosis. In line with
this purpose, firstly, idioms and proverbs were determined by examining the primary school
fourth grade Turkish course book. Afterwards, interviews were held with both student
groups through the prepared interview questions and these interviews were analyzed. The
research was carried out in the 2020-2021 academic year with students from two institutions
by selecting from the purposeful sampling methods from Ankara with criterion sampling.
These institutions are the Science and Art Center and a primary school. In the research,
which was designed as a holistic multiple case study by adopting a qualitative approach,
the data were obtained through interviews and document analysis. As a result of the
research, it was concluded that the fourth grade students with special abilities perceived
idioms and proverbs more metaphorically than the students without gifted-talented
diagnosis, and gifted the students displayed different thinking and critical thinking skills
compared to the students without gifted diagnosis.
