Encouraging parents to use supportive emotion socialization approaches and informing them about the effects of non-supportive approaches is an important step to support children's emotional competence. Tuning into Kids Program aims to support parents’ emotion socialization skills and thus to develop emotional competence of their children. In this regard, the aim of the study is to examine the effectiveness of Tuning into Kids on emotion socialization skills of parents who have children between 36-72 months and their children’s emotional competence in Turkish sample. In order to investigate the effectiveness of the adapted program, a mix-method approach with Embedded Experimental Design was used. 59 mother-child dyads and seven teachers were participated in the study. Parents filled ‘Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale’, ‘Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale’,’Conners Rating Scale’ and ‘Emotion Regulation Checklist’. Child data were collected via ‘Affect Knowledge Test’ and ‘Disappointing Gift Task’. Qualitative data was gathered through interviews. In order to test the significance of the differences between experiment and control groups parametric and nonparametric statistical techniques were employed while content analysis was used in the qualitative data analysis. Findings indicated that Tuning into Kids is an effective tool for supporting parents’ emotion socialization skills, improving children’s parent-reported behavioral and emotional problems and increasing children’s understanding and regulating emotions. In addition, parents and teachers had positive emotions about the program and parents’ satisfaction was found to be permanent. The results were evaluated in terms of the importance of implementation for different stakeholders and the dissemination of the program.
