Öğrencilerin Matematiksel Düşüncelerine Odaklanma: Matematik Öğretmen Adayları ile Bir Durum Çalışması
Özet
The purpose of this study is to investigate middle school prospective mathematics teachers’ skills in revealing students’ mathematical thinking about ratio and to determine the changes in their interaction with the student. Qualitative approach is used. Two prospective teachers and eight 7th grade students participated in the study, lasted for nine weeks. The first four weeks were devoted to preparation and the last five weeks were devoted to student- prospective teacher clinical interviews and evaluation of these interviews. At the end, interviews were conducted with prospective teachers about the evaluation of the study. Individual and focus group interviews with prospective teachers and one-on-one clinical interviews were audio and video recorded. Transcripts of video recordings, interviews, observations, prospective teachers' reports and field notes were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, an existing framework obtained from the literature was adapted and used to determine the interaction levels of the prospective teachers. The data were analyzed by content analysis method. Findings show that one of the prospective teachers is mostly in Level 3 and the other is in Level 1. There were positive changes in the interactions of the prospective teachers throughout the study. It is thought that discussions before and after the interviews, reviewing student solutions, re-watching one-on-one interview videos and examining the transcripts of the video recordings are effective in the change of prospective teachers. In addition, prospective teachers expressed that they gained awareness about student thoughts and rate concept at the end of the study.
