Abstract
This methodological study was conducted to adapt the Male Urogenital Distress Inventory (MUDI) and the Male Urinary Symptom Impact Questionnaire (MUSIQ) to Turkish culture and to examine their validity and reliability. The study included 300 male patients presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), and the test–retest evaluation was completed with 79 participants. Descriptive statistics, the content validity index, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, Pearson correlation analysis, Cronbach’s alpha coefficients, corrected item-total correlations, and the intraclass correlation coefficients were used in the data analysis. Following translation, expert review, and pilot testing, the content validity indices were found to be 0.995 for the Turkish form of the MUDI (EÜDE) and 0.978 for the Turkish form of the MUSIQ (EÜSEA). Exploratory factor analysis showed that EÜDE consisted of 21 items and three subdimensions (Voiding, Storage, and Incontinence), whereas EÜSEA consisted of 27 items and three subdimensions (Psychosocial Impact, Impact on Daily Life, and Activity and Functioning); both structures were confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis (χ²/df = 2.784 and 2.657; RMSEA = 0.077 and 0.074, respectively). Convergent validity analyses revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between the total scores of EÜDE and ICIQ-MLUTS (r = 0.735) and a statistically significant negative correlation between the total scores of EÜSEA and I-QOL (r = −0.829) (p <0.001). The Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficients were 0.846 for EÜDE and 0.953 for EÜSEA. In the four-week test–retest evaluation, the intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.996 for EÜDE and 0.973 for EÜSEA (p <0.001). In conclusion, the Turkish forms of both measurement instruments were determined to be valid and reliable tools for evaluating the distress caused by LUTS and its impact on quality of life in the male patient population.
