Nomadik Pastoralist Devletin Oluşumu Ve Yapısı: Göktürk Devleti Örneği

Abstract

In this thesis, the formation and structure of the nomadic pastoralist state are addressed within the context of the continuity and flexibility specific to nomadic pastoralist Turkic communities in Central Asia, with the aim of providing a concrete explanation within a historical-social framework through the case of the Göktürks. It is based on the assumption that the mode of production and the mobility associated with it play a significant role in shaping the social and political relations that underlie the formation processes and structures of nomadic pastoralist states. Accordingly, the thesis discusses the formation and structure of the state in the case of the Göktürks in relation to the material conditions that give rise to social property relations. This thesis argues that, in contrast to Eurocentric state formation theories developed based on the parameters of settled societies, nomadic pastoralist states are complex political entities that develop distinct organizational methods according to their own specific conditions. In the existing literature, studies that evaluate nomadic pastoralist communities through the lens of material conditions are rare, and research on Central Asian Turk history generally does not go beyond descriptive historical narratives. In this regard, the thesis examines the Göktürks through the material conditions of life, contextualizing the formation of nomadic pastoralist states within a historical framework and striving to offer an original contribution to state theory through the example of the Turks.
