Yu Hua’nın Kanını Satan Adam Adlı Romanının Türkçe Çevirisi Üzerine Bir İnceleme

Abstract

The renowned author Yu Hua’s novel Chronicle of a Blood Merchant unfolds against a vast historical backdrop, presenting its multifaceted world through a third-person narrative within a specific historical context. Erdem Kurtuldu’s translation of Chronicle of a Blood Merchant into Turkish has contributed, to some extent, to the wider dissemination of outstanding Chinese literature.

The main content of this research is based on a comparative analysis of the Turkish translation and the original text. In this study, the translation characteristics of the Turkish version of Chronicle of a Blood Merchant will first be analyzed and discussed;the accuracy, fluency, and literary value of the Turkish translation will be examined in the context of intercultural backgrounds between the two countries. In the comparative examination of the Turkish translation, issues such as mistranslations, their causes, the prominent features of the translation, and problems encountered in the translation process of contemporary Chinese literary works will be identified. At the same time, an in-depth analysis will be conducted on the domestication and foreignization strategies, translation methods, and translation techniques presented in the Turkish version of the novel. The existence of cultural differences will inevitably lead to various discrepancies in the outcomes of cross-cultural literary exchanges, particularly in the translation of literary works. Therefore, this study will also analyze and summarize the problems encountered in the Turkish translation of the novel and propose some optimization measures in response to these issues.

This study may help us better understand how the characteristics and evolution of modern Chinese literature are reflected in the Turkish literary environment. Furthermore, it’s hoped that this research will provide some references for the future translation of Yu Hua's works into Turkish, as well as for the translation of Chinese-Turkish novels in general, thereby promoting exchange between the two languages and cultures.
