The Blue Mosque located in Tabriz city of Iran, which was used as a worship place in the past is a very significant architectural monument regarding historical heritage and especially in terms of the colors used in construction and visual signifiers/ icons. This building, which “was registered on the Iranian National Heritage list in 1931” (Aleahmad, n.d., p. 4), has been named Blue because of the dominant use of blue color in its ornaments (Cost, 2011, p. 157).
In this thesis, the colors and motifs used in the ornaments of Tabriz Blue Mosque as one of the historical heritage of Iran, are analyzed in the context of the promotional of historical monuments, and also promotional posters related to the monument are designed.
In the first chapter of this study; in addition to the history of Tabriz city, the history of Blue Mosque, the description of a mosque in travelogues, information about visual features and techniques used in its construction are given.
In the second chapter; the colors and motifs used in the Blue Mosque are analyzed regarding features and meaning and motifs used as signifier are explained in details.
İn the third chapter; in general focus is on poster design and development; in particular given an overview about Turkey poster art and Iran poster art, tips to be considered in poster design are disclosed and information about poster types is given.
In the fourth chapter; samples of historical monument promotional were analyzed. In the subheading, samples of promotional posters designed for 10 historical monuments located in Turkey, Iran, India and Poland were analyzed.
In the fifth chapter; promotional poster designs and other application studies of Blue Mosque scrutinized and given.
