Music performance analysis is a discipline which examines live or recorded
music. Interpretation differences on the same work involve a series of details
which cannot be explained verbally . This caused interpretation to not be
theorised sufficiently before 19th century . However this situation has changed
in 19th century due to the recording of the sound. The musical effect that
designed by the composer, or theorist was no longer based on just estimation.
Presentation of reliable auditory recordings have been a milestone for
performance analysis[2]. Thus, it was possible to examine a musical
performance in the light of the theoretical corpus of the performance analysis of
musicologists and theorists, especially the post-20th century works, with notes
of how composers should perform their own works.
This study examines how interpreters meet the composer’s expectations on
notes/text through a section of Beethoven’s Sonata for Piano and Violin op. 30
no.2, first movement.
