Alphan, M.B. The Relationship Between Recreation-Oriented Work Productivity
and Leisure Interest: A Case Study in the Telecommunications Sector. Master's
Thesis, Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences, Sports Sciences
and Technology Program, Ankara, 2025.The aim of this research is to examine the
relationship between employees’ participation in workplace recreation, their leisure
interest, and the work productivity of individuals involved in recreational activities
within a telecommunications company. The study population consists of 2700
employees from a telecommunications company based in Istanbul, who participated
in recreational activities in 2023. The sample of the study is comprised of 383
participants, selected through purposive sampling. To measure the participants' leisure
interest levels, the Leisure Interest Scale (LIS) adapted into Turkish by Gürbüz et al.
(12) was used, and to assess recreation-oriented work productivity, the Recreation
Oriented Employee Productivity Scale (ROEPS) developed by Mercanoğlu (28) was
employed. In the data analysis, the suitability of the dataset (normal distribution,
outliers) was first tested. Subsequently, descriptive statistics, variance analysis (t-test,
ANOVA), correlation, and regression analyses were conducted. SPSS software was
used to analyze the data obtained for this thesis. The findings indicate that employees
participating in workplace recreation show differences in recreation-oriented work
productivity based on variables such as daily leisure time, participation in company
organized events, and types of activities. Similarly, comparisons reveal that the leisure
interest levels of employees involved in workplace recreation vary according to
gender, education, daily leisure time, participation in company-organized events, and
types of activities. Additionally, positive relationships were found between recreation
oriented work productivity and leisure interest, with leisure interest having a positive
effect on recreation-oriented employee productivity.
