When art is evaluated as a field that works with senses and emotions, how all
sense organs, innovation and newness can be worked on can be taken and
examined separately for each art field. In the study, the perceptual and cultural
dimensions of smell; How it can be reflected through ceramic material and form
was emphasized, the history of smell and its use in different cultures were
investigated. In the ceramic forms made, it was matched with the aesthetic
structure of the female body and the beautiful smell attributed to women. The
connotations of smell, the expression of smell in ceramic forms, without classifying
the smell, the person's mental journey towards the past, was enriched with
metaphorical life such as female figures, wavy forms, deer pictures and stoves,
and the smells were placed in accordance with the connotations of ceramic forms.
It was investigated how smell can be used as a means of expression not limited to
visual and tactile senses in ceramic art, sleep with combined clay smell and
experiments with different killers were evaluated. In order to determine the
methods used in this study and to perform a literature review, printed sources and
academic databases were used. Within the scope of the literature review, specific
books, articles and theses were examined in order to provide information and
deep understanding on the subject. The study presents an innovative approach to
the forms of expressing olfactory perception in ceramic art and aims to develop
designs so that the scent can combine with ceramics to create different
experiences in the audience. This thesis aims to examine the sensory dimension
of art from a broader perspective by deeply examining the relationship between
scent and form in ceramic art.
