Mythology has been intertwined with belief systems since the early periods of humanity, finding its place in literary works such as legends and epics. Over time, visual elements such as icons, illustrations, and graphic forms have been used to enhance storytelling, and with technological advancements, this process has evolved into animations, cartoons, and motion graphics. Similarly, mythological narratives have undergone a transformation, expanding from novels, stories, and epic poems to video games and the film industry.
The sociological transformation of target audiences has also altered their expectations from narratives. Humanity has always been drawn to stories that reflect aspects of their own lives and emotions. Productions such as Marvel and DC have ensured the continued impact of mythological narratives by blending traditional mythological themes with contemporary elements.
In this context, the main objective of this thesis is to reinterpret and present the Creation Epic (Yaradılış Destanı), which explores the origins of the universe, good and evil, and cosmic order, through a contemporary mythology perspective using motion graphics. The thesis examines the concepts of contemporary mythology and motion graphics while analyzing the archetypes and symbols of Ural-Altaic mythology. As part of the application process, a motion graphic adaptation of the Creation Epic was created and evaluated through a survey involving 106 participants. The survey results indicate that presenting mythological narratives through motion graphics has a positive impact on audiences and that the use of digital tools is a significant method for transmitting contemporary mythological stories.
