Heikki Paasonen’in Csuvas Szójegyzék Adlı Sözlüğü Üzerine Sözlük Bilimsel ve Köken Bilimsel Bir İnceleme
Özet
Csuvas Szójegyzék is a Chuvash-Hungarian-German trilingual and partially etymological dictionary
prepared by Heikki Paasonen in 1908. This dictionary is of great importance for Turkology and Altaic
studies in terms of the etymological and folkloric material it contains. The translation of the dictionary
published by the Turkish Language Association in 1950 cannot be used in scientific studies today due to
transcription problems, inadequate printing facilities of the time, and many deficiencies and errors. Based
on this, this study aims to prepare a new Turkish translation of Csuvas Szójegyzék that is true to the
Chuvash-Hungarian-German original, eliminates the errors and deficiencies in the original, and makes it
easier to use.
The study consists of three main sections. The first section discusses Heikki Paasonen's life, field trips,
and works. The second section compares the features of Csuvas Szójegyzék’s translation made by the
Turkish Language Association in 1950 and the new Turkish translation, and also discusses the method of
our study. The third and final section includes Csuvas Szójegyzék’s new Turkish translation. This thesis
was prepared with the support of the Turkish Language Association.
