Fantasy culture in general, and comic books in particular, are of great importance for the protection of cultural heritage, its sustainability and its functional use in terms of social development. Creative industries related to fantasy culture are particularly nourished by oral cultural heritage and re-functionalize the information contained therein for daily life. Oral folklore products such as mythologies, traditional epics, legends and tales are among the most used cultural materials at this point. Comic books appear to be one of the most functional bridges between oral cultural memory and modern creative industries. However, creative industries for fantasy culture and comic book genres are not developed enough in Turkey. This situation is an important deficiency in terms of the sustainability, functionality and socioeconomic efficiency of Turkish culture. In this study, firstly, it was examined how Abdullah Turhan's fantasy comics handled the central Turkish epic hero typology, hen, the importance of fantasy culture and comic book industry for Turkish culture and social development processes was discussed. There has never before been a study that draws attention to the importance of comic books in terms of fantasy culture industries and cultural heritage by comparing traditional epic heroes and comic book heroes in the context of Turkish culture. In this research, the functional relationships between cultural heritage, fantasy culture industries and comics were revealed and it was concluded that comics and fantasy culture are of great importance for the functional and effective survival of Turkish culture.
