The main goal of language teaching is to teach individuals how to communicate effectively for various purposes using their language skills. This process involves various methodological approaches that have been discussed among language educators for many years. One of these approaches, the Communicative Approach, is accepted as a current method and includes the concept of “communicative competence”. Although there have been many studies on the communicative approach in the field of teaching Turkish as a first language or as a foreign language, there is no study (in the databases searched in this study and in the time interval) on “strategic competence”, which is one of the important components of communicative competence. This study aims to examine strategic competence, which includes the ability to recognize and overcome difficulties encountered during communication, within the framework of the Communicative Approach. In addition, it is aimed to contribute to future studies on this concept by conducting a social network analysis on the concept of strategic competence. Strategic competence enables language learners to recognize situations that they do not understand or misunderstand, to ask effective questions and to develop alternative ways to continue the communication process. Strategic competence is also important in language teaching in terms of enabling students to become both linguistically and culturally competent and to be more effective and harmonious in communication. In this study, a meta-synthesis of studies on strategic competence in different contexts was conducted. The research was conducted using the meta-synthesis method, one of the qualitative research methods. Document analysis was preferred as the data collection method, and the data were analyzed by thematic content analysis method, one of the qualitative data analysis types. Criterion sampling method, one of the qualitative research sampling methods, was used to determine the study group. The findings are given in the relevant sections and interpreted in the sections following this section.
