Duisburg-Essen University, located in Germany, one of the most preferred countries for Turks to migrate abroad, trains Turkish teachers to meet the needs of Turks living in Germany to learn their native language. Although the migration of Turks to Germany started in the 1960s, it still continues with increasing momentum. The Turkish community, with its increasing population in Germany, is a mass that is always changing in terms of its characteristics, and the need for this population to learn their native language continues. In order for our compatriots abroad to learn Turkish, Duisburg-Essen University has started to provide the service of teaching Turkish to Turkish immigrants with its Turkistics Department. Students in this department can teach Turkish to Turks who have similar problems and are bilingual like themselves, after graduation. The purpose of this research is to describe the establishment, purpose and vision of the specified department and to reveal their thoughts about the reasons for choosing this department, their motivation sources and Turkish proficiency through interviews with students of the department. A qualitative research was created by analyzing the information obtained from semi-structured interview forms with undergraduate and graduate students in the department. As a result of the findings obtained in the research, it was aimed to reveal the experiences of university students studying at the Turkistics Department of the University of Duisburg-Essen regarding this department from before to after the education process. In addition, this research conducted with the students of the Turkistics Department of the University of Duisburg-Essen is important because it is the first and only institute that provides Turkish education abroad. Thus, in line with the opinions received from the students of the department, it will be possible to determine and have an idea about the current situation of Turkish in Germany and the aspects that need to be improved. The data of this research were collected with semi-structured interview forms developed by taking opinions of field experts. A semi-structured interview form was applied to the study group of the research, 42 students from the Turkistics Department of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, and 8 faculty members from the same department. The interview forms, which are the data of the research prepared in accordance with the qualitative research method, were examined by content analysis. As a result of the research, it was concluded that students in the Department of Turkistics benefited from department courses to improve their Turkish language skills, were aware of the importance of the mother tongue, and were determined to ensure the continuity of Turkish in Germany. In addition, lecturers in the Turkistics Department always encourage and guide students to improve the Turkish they use. Turkish teacher candidates, who are trained in the Department of Turkistics in accordance with the current conditions in Germany, undergo a longer training than Turkish teachers in Turkey in order to teach their native language to bilingual students in Germany.
