Abstract

It is obvious that today is a world of interconnected societies and the power of culture to transform these societies. Cultural Heritage constitutes a source of 'identity' and 'cohesion' for communities disrupted by social chaos and economic instability. Cultural and natural assets that have value for humanity have been damaged by wars, disasters, rapid urbanization and infrastructure projects. In the 'architecture' practice of our time, the reuse of existing buildings by remodelling, restoring and reusing them is becoming more important day by day. The contemporary world attaches importance to benefiting from 'existing' architectural heritage structures with a 'lower cost' economic approach, considering the need for sustainable resources. In architecture, adaptive reuse comes to the fore here. This approach not only means using the buildings and applying them appropriately, but also changing the function of the building and revealing a potential that can serve the economic understanding needed by the society. By re-functioning the preserved old or historical 'heritage', it will be included in contemporary life, the design strategy will be prioritized with a focus on 'context', and the re-functionalization process will be completed with an interior architecture project. The concept of design has evolved as a result of modernism and its reflections on design have had a strong impact on the perception of space. An expert interior architect's ability to foresee the perception of space, be aware of the 'memory' effect while creating this perception will be a critical complement to adaptive reuse process by using the appropriate and strategical interior architecture approaches .Ultimately, in addition to spatial solutions, adaptive reuse projects that are eye-catching, contemporary, functional, protected, added valued, in demand and attracting attentional on national and international design platforms are designed.
