Tire Yeşil Zaviye: Köken ve İşlev
Özet
Tire Yeşil Zaviye is located in Cumhuriyet Quarter of Tire district of Izmir, west of the commercial fabric of the city and on an area rising with a slight slope from north to south. The building, which has no construction inscription, was built as a zawiyah by Halil Yahşi Bey during the reign of Murad II (1421-1451). Halil Yahşi Bey's Arabic foundation dated H. 845/M. 1441 is recorded in the archive of the General Directorate of Foundations on page 211 and row 205 of the foundation book titled Mücedded Anadolu Sani numbered 586.
Tire, an important trade settlement of the Aegean region, came to the forefront as a prosperous and developed city of Western Anatolia in the XIVth and XVth centuries, and became the scientific center of the region with its cultural richness since this period. The notables of the city, who had political and economic power, played an important role in the architectural development of Tire. These people, including Halil Yahşi Bey, supported artists and scholars financially and morally, while also building public buildings such as the Yeşil Zaviye. All these reasons made the city a popular destination for travelers, especially from the seventeenth century onwards. Some travelers, especially Evliya Çelebi, provided information shedding light on the city's situation in the XVth century in their records. The building, which is the subject of our thesis and whose original name is unknown, was first named as Cami-i Yeşil İmaret by Evliya Çelebi and introduced as a building that was previously used as a Mevlevîhâne and converted into a mosque due to the lack of mosques in the region. In our thesis, Tire Yeşil Zaviye is discussed in terms of its plan, architecture, ornamentation, repairs and function, and evaluated by comparing it with similar contemporary buildings and different types of works of the period.
