The path to power in modern politics is through the generation of systematic knowledge and the practical use of this knowledge. In countries governed by democracy, elections provide an appropriate scope for this. Language, as the medium of communication, is an inseparable part of politics in terms of its crucial role in the formation and dissemination of political discourses and statements. In this sense, language is the medium that determines the power of political discourses. And the discourse as a process increases this power through different media, working groups from the parties like women's or youth organizations or through the people who are valued and respected by society. Discourse analysis is defined in this context as the research of all this data, based on certain theories and approaches.
In this study, Turkey's EU accession discourse was examined in the German and Turkish political parties and in the daily newspapers of both countries. The study consists of two main parts: theory and practice. In the first, theoretical part, subjects such as semantics, structuralism and semiotics, which form the scientific basis of discourse analysis, were explained in detail and their relationships to discourse research were shown. Then the linguistic and critical discourse theories were explained. In the second, practical part, which was carried out according to the theory of three-dimensional linguistic discourse analysis; the EU accession discourses of the parties, which they publish in the election programs and which can be found in the national media, especially in the print media, were examined and analyzed in detail. Lexical, metaphorical, and argumentation analyses were performed on the corpus obtained based on this three-dimensional model of linguistic discourse analysis.
At the end of each period studied, the acquired data were compared and interpreted in relation to the relevant election results. In addition, it is proposed to prepare important concepts and key terms related to the EU accession processes of the candidate countries, obtained as a result of the analysis, as a dictionary of EU accession terminology.
