This study aims to examine the relationship between the perceived leadership style of a manager by employees and the organizational citizenship behaviors of individual employees. The second objective is to assess the moderating effect of employees' proactive personality levels on this relationship.
To explore these objectives, a field study was conducted with the participation of 307 individuals in three major companies operating in Ankara with branches in different cities and involved in different business sectors. The first company operates in the retail sector for men's clothing, the second company is involved in printed book publishing, and the third company is a private educational institution.
To collect research data, participants were asked to complete the "Transformational and Transactional Leadership Scale" developed by Toker and Dönmez (2017: 753-775), the "Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale" developed by Basım and Şeşen (2006: 86-101), and the "Proactive Personality Scale" adapted to Turkish by Akın and Özcan (2015: 165-172).
The research findings indicate a positive relationship between transformational leadership style and organizational citizenship behaviors. These results suggest that leaders adopting a supportive leadership style encourage employees' organizational citizenship behaviors. Additionally, it was found that proactive personality has an enhancing effect on organizational citizenship behaviors. This finding indicates that employees with a proactive personality are more influenced by transformational leadership style and exhibit higher levels of organizational citizenship behaviors. However, it was understood that the levels of employees' proactive personality did not have a moderating effect on the relationship between perceived transformational leadership by managers and organizational citizenship behaviors of employees.
