Teaching Turkish as a foreign language has become an area which continues its
improvement day by day. As a consequence, various teaching sets, materials, thesis’
are being created. Improving language skills and concordantly, representing Turkish
culture items are aimed with these studies. In general, one matter of question for this
study is the cultural element placed in Turkish teaching sets, and in detail, the
cultural object to be included. Some of the items to which culture transfer can be
made is in placed in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List which will be
regarded as a competent authority. The aim of the study is to ascertain the way these
cultural elements used in books and give relevant suggestions. The importance of
intangible cultural heritage is that has elements that directly effect daily life of the
societies. Also, these elements are considered valuable for the representation of
Turkish culture. Cultural theory and cultural processes are scrutinised as they are
parts of culture transfer; culture - language relation and intercultural communication
are discussed in study. In accordance with this purpose, course books of Yunus Emre
Enstitüsü Yedi İklim and Ankara University TÖMER Yeni Hitit Turkish teaching
sets were scanned and were made content analysis. Consequently, obtained data
indicates the usage of these items can be expandable quantitatively and qualitatively.
In addition, some suggestions are given to provide benefits for representation of
related cultural elements in the lessons of teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
