This study argues that Turkish romantic comedy films made between 1970 and 1980 took their origins from the American screwball film genre of the 1930s and therefore should be termed "turco-screwball". The research emphasizes the synthesis feature of this new sub-genre, which emerged from the meeting of the tradition of love and humor in the Turkish cinema of the 1970s with the American screwball cinema. In this regard, it is suggested that the bond of society with the art of cinema and the perception of popular taste may also be related to historical, sociological and economic conditions. The research is structured in the form of genre analysis within the scope of qualitative understanding. The data were obtained from 19 collected works by reviewing the relevant literature and examining digital film archives. As a result, it is understood that since Turkish romantic comedy productions in the 1970s evidently have a screwball effect as well as some unique features, they should be classifed as the films of a synthesis subgenre.
